McKean Senior Center is a long-established healthcare institution in Northern Thailand, providing medical care, rehabilitation, and support services to the local community. Like many hospitals with legacy systems, McKean faced increasing challenges with outdated software that no longer supported their evolving operational needs.

The Challenge
McKean’s existing hospital management system was poorly maintained, lacked integration across departments, and required staff to perform many tasks manually. The system was not aligned with the hospital’s internal processes, leading to inefficiencies and data fragmentation.
The project also presented internal challenges for Manao Software:
- It was a non-billable, low-priority project, meaning it had to be developed using limited and unstable resources.
- Team members were frequently reassigned to billable projects, resulting in inconsistent staffing.
- On the client side, the main point of contact had limited availability and lacked a comprehensive view of the hospital’s cross-departmental needs, making it difficult to define clear and complete requirements.
Goals & Objectives
Despite the constraints, the project had a clear and ambitious goal:
To develop a modern, integrated Hospital Management System that would streamline administrative and medical workflows across the organization.
Key objectives included:
- Centralize and digitize patient records, diagnoses, treatments, and medical examinations
- Manage stock and inventory of medicines and medical supplies
- Generate medical documents and reports
- Improve internal coordination and reduce manual processes
- Deliver a scalable, maintainable system that could evolve with the hospital’s needs
Our Solution
Manao Software began development of the new system on 1 June 2023, using a modern JavaScript stack to ensure flexibility and performance. Despite the resource limitations, the team remained committed to delivering a solution that would make a meaningful difference for McKean’s staff and patients.
Technologies & Tools
- Backend: Node.js – for a lightweight, event-driven server architecture
- Frontend: React – for a responsive, user-friendly interface
- Deployment: The system was deployed to production and officially accepted by the client on 4 February 2025
Despite the resource limitations, the team delivered a robust solution that is now live and actively used by hospital staff.

The system integrates a wide range of hospital functions, including:
- Patient registration and medical history tracking
- Diagnosis and treatment records
- Medical examination and laboratory data management
- Medicine and supply stock control
- Document generation for medical reports and prescriptions
- Administrative tools for internal coordination
The Result
The new system has significantly improved operational efficiency at McKean Hospital. While some change requests are still being addressed based on team availability, the core system is stable, in production, and meeting the hospital’s day-to-day needs.
This project demonstrates Manao Software’s ability to deliver meaningful results—even under challenging conditions—by staying focused on the client’s mission and adapting to real-world constraints.
“For more than eight years, we employed an in-house programmer to develop our hospital software. However, despite our best intentions, the project never reached completion.
